Brighton vs Arsenal: Saka over 1.5 shots on target at 3.00

Saka is back to full volume: 19 shots and nine on target in his last five starts, plus penalty duty. Rested for Tuesday's cup tie, he should go the distance at the Amex.

Why Saka over 1.5 shots on target is the bet

Minutes first. Saka has started all four of Arsenal's Premier League games and the Champions League opener, averaging 82 minutes across his last five starts (67, 90, 89, 72, 90). On Tuesday night Arteta left him out of the EFL Cup tie at Ipswich altogether, with Madueke starting on the right. That is the usual pattern before a Saturday league game: he is being kept fresh for this one.

The volume has come back. In those five starts he has 19 shots and nine on target (FBref), which is 4.2 shots and 2.0 on target per 90, with two or more on target against Chelsea and Sunderland. He also takes Arsenal's penalties and converted one at the Stadium of Light last weekend. Widen the window to his last ten club starts and the numbers drop to 3.4 shots and 1.3 on target per 90, but that stretch includes the end of last season when he was coming back from injury and playing partial games; the current run is the better guide to how he is being used now.

Brighton give up chances. They have conceded 47 shots in four league games, 11.75 per 90 and 4.25 on target, and they are missing Minteh, Hinshelwood, Tzimas, Mitoma, Wieffer, Yohanna and Ferguson. Arsenal's right side against a depleted Brighton back line should see plenty of the ball. With 85 minutes and a rate around 1.6 on target per 90 I make two or more roughly a 42% chance. bet365's 2/1 (3.00) implies 33%.

Team news

Saka was rested for Tuesday's EFL Cup tie at Ipswich, with Noni Madueke starting on the right; he had played 90 minutes at Sunderland on 12 September and no knock has been reported. Arsenal are without William Saliba (back), with Ben White (groin) and Cristhian Mosquera (knock) also listed as unavailable. Brighton are missing Yankuba Minteh, Jack Hinshelwood, Stefanos Tzimas, Kaoru Mitoma, Mats Wieffer, Zadok Yohanna and Evan Ferguson.

The risk

Over his last ten starts Saka has cleared this line only three times, so the case leans on his current form rather than a long sample. Only bet365 has priced the market so far and 2/1 may shorten once the other firms open up on Thursday. Brighton press well at home and could keep the ball away from him for spells.

Verdict

bet365's 3.00 implies a 33.3% chance. On his current shot volume, his penalty duty and Brighton's thinned defence, I put two or more shots on target at about 42%. That is a 1 unit bet, my maximum on any player market.
