Where Bayern's corners come from

I price corners from two things: how many a side wins, and how many the opponent gives up. Bayern have won 7.7 corners a game across their last ten Bundesliga matches (Sofascore match pages), and the home split is higher at 9.5 over the last four at the Allianz Arena: nine against Stuttgart last month, then 13, 11 and five last spring. The two away games this month produced nine at Elversberg and 11 at Schalke, so the volume has survived a poor start in results. This season Bayern are averaging 71% possession, 21 shots and 19 crosses a game, with 22 blocked attempts in three matches. Blocked shots and blocked crosses are where corners are made.

Union are the other half of the sum. They have conceded 5.8 corners a game over their last ten league matches, and 7.8 in the four away games: 11 at Leverkusen this month, seven at Mainz, ten at Leipzig and three at Heidenheim. Their 4-3-1-2 sits narrow and deep, which invites the cross and the block. The head-to-head says the same thing. Bayern took 12 corners to Union's one at the Allianz in March, 14 at the Alte Försterei in March 2025 and seven at home in November 2024. The only low count, five, came in a 2-2 draw in Berlin last November.

Blending Bayern's home rate with what Union concede away gives an expected Bayern count of about 8.5. Even using the plainer ten-game averages the figure is 6.75, which still clears the line. Over 6.5 at 1.80 is the price I want; over 7.5 at 2.30 is a fair alternative but the extra corner costs too much probability for my liking.

Team news

Transfermarkt lists no Bayern injuries or suspensions. Michael Olise and Ismael Saibari started wide in the 4-2-3-1 at Elversberg on Sunday with Luis Díaz used from the bench (Sofascore line-ups), so the wide players who produce the crosses are available.

Union have seven names on the Transfermarkt injury list, including centre-backs Stanley Nsoki and Marvin Friedrich and left-back Andrik Markgraf (cruciate ligament). A patched-up back line under sustained wide pressure tends to concede more corners, not fewer.

The risk

Bayern have started the season poorly, losing at Elversberg and drawing 0-0 at Schalke, and an early goal could turn this into a slow possession game with fewer crosses. The 5-5 corner count against Köln in May shows the number can stall when an opponent comes out to play. Union's deep block also held Heidenheim to three corners against them.

Verdict

Over 6.5 Bayern corners at 1.80 implies 55.6%. My expected Bayern count is 8.5 and I make it around 66% that they reach seven, an edge of roughly ten points. Staked at 1 unit (grade 3).
